 Opposition Chief Ex-Primminister Begum Khaleda Zia has returned home from New York after concluding her fortnight-long tour of the UK and the USA. She arrived by an Emirates Airlines flight around 5pm on Sunday. Senior leaders of the party greeted her with flowers outside the VIP lounge at Shahjalal International Airport.

She was conferred a special honour during her stay in the USA by New Jersey Senate.
The party, along with its factions, accorded her a grand reception outside the airport.
BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Dhaka City mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka and acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir were among those present at the airport.

The BNP chairperson left Dhaka for London on May 14 and began her USA tour from May 21.
During her weeklong stay in the USA, Khaleda called on US vice president Joe Biden's security advisor Tony Blinken, Bangladesh's congressional caucus co-chair Joseph Crowly and three other influential congressmen in Washington. Prior to her US visit, the BNP chief met her eldest son Tarique Rahman in London after over three years. She had also met various other political leaders, including former British prime minister Gordon Brown, in the UK.

M A Muhit has scaled the Mount Everest to be the second Bangladeshi after Musa Ibrahim to achieve the feat.
Foreign ministry director general (external publicity) Shamim Ehsan told bdnews24.com on Sunday Muhit, a member of Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club (BMTC), had reached the summit on Saturday, one year after Musa.
"The Nepalese embassy in Dhaka on Saturday evening informed us of Muhith's conquering the Everest," he said.
BMTC founder Inam Al Haque also confirmed the incident.

 MA Muhit becomes second Bangladeshi to conquer the Everest, world`s highest mountain peak, as he reached the summit, which is 8,850 meters above sea level, on Saturday.
Director- General of foreign ministry’s External publicity wing Shamim Ahsan confirmed the success of Muhit to banglanews over telephone.
“MA Muhit informed the Director General, foreign ministry’s South Asia Affairs, Mashfi Binte Shams about the success oof his expedition.
Earlier on May 24 in 2010, Musa Ibrahim conquered the Mount Everest as the first Bangladeshi conquerer.
Though Muhit was the companion of Musa Ibrahim that time, he could not reach Mount Everest due to inclement weather.
Earlier, MA Muhit scaled Cho Oyo, the sixth highest peak of the world, which is 8, 201 meters tall. Besides, he reached at the top of Bijoy Tahjingdong, the highest mountain of Bangladesh, for twice.
MA Muhit received training from Himalayan Mountaineering Institute of India. He surmounted on Chulu West, Meera, Singu and Lobuje peak of the Himalayans.
He also scaled the Mansulu Mountain which is more than 7,000 meters tall.

Muhit started for Himalayans with his entourage on last week of March, 2011.
Besides, more two Bangalees, Deepangkar Ghosh and Rajib Bhattracharya of India, also climbed onto the top of the Mount Everest.
Earlier, Indian Bangalee Debashis Biswas and Bashanta Shingha Roy conquered Everest in 2010. But Sattobrato Dam claimed him as the first Bangalee conqueror of Mount Everest. He was scaled Everest on behalf of Indian Army.
By this account, Bangladesh’s mountaineer MA Muhit became 5th Bangalee to reach the top of the Mount Everest.
